How QuotedFair works
Three steps. This is a planning tool, not an appraisal and not a contractor recommendation.
Step 1
Enter the job
Region, access, size, and the messy details that actually change price: a roof vent, packed gutters, a tight crawl. You do not need an account or a phone number.
Step 2
See a planning range
Each calculator starts from a 2026 U.S. typical range, then applies simple adjustments and a regional multiplier. You get a low, a high, and a midpoint.
Step 3
Compare the quote
If you enter a number, QuotedFair labels it Low, Fair, or High:
- Low — below the low end of the range.
- Fair — inside the range, including the ends.
- High — above the high end of the range.
Worked example
Roof dryer vent in California, 20+ ft, no nest, quote $180.
- National roof typical is $150–$250.
- A 20+ ft run adds 20%, which is $180–$300.
- No nest, so nothing is added for blockage.
- California is +25%, which is $225–$375.
- Midpoint $300.
- $180 is below $225, so the verdict is Low.
Low here does not mean “take it.” A roof job at $180 in California is often a thinner scope — missing cap work, access, or nest language. Put the same inputs in the dryer vent calculator to see the card.
What a verdict is not
Low is not automatically a steal. It can mean missing scope. High is not automatically a gouge. It can mean a harder roof, a wet crawl, or a company that includes disposal and a replacement cap. Read the quote and the disclaimer before you treat the label as a decision.
